How much is pet grooming?
The prices will depend on the style you want, the condition of your pet's hair and your pet's disposition. We'll be happy to give you a rough estimate and would love to see your pet before you book. They'll get a treat too!
Why does my pet have to be shaved? Pets who aren't brushed regularly (especially before and after home baths) mat up quickly. In most cases, these super-tangles can't be brushed out, because it's just too painful for your pet. The skin underneath is extra sensitive.
DO NOT TRY TO CUT THE MATS OUT YOURSELF AT HOME! It's dangerous. The skin can grow into the mats, which means a haircut can be a little trickier. Your pet's haircut may be more expensive as a result.
They will feel a lot better with the new haircut (even if they look funny to you), and then you have a fresh start and can keep him brushed out from now on. We are always happy to help you with this.
I don't want my dog to be in a cage. Most people don't like the idea of their pet being in a cage, but the cage offers a secure and comfy place for pets to relax and observe between their bath, haircut and being picked up by you.
Most pets enjoy snoozing on their bed or safely watching the other pets. But if you REALLY want your dog to have a "cage free" grooming experience, you can pay for an "EXPRESS GROOM." With the E-Groom, your pet is worked on start to finish, with no other dogs in between. It can usually be done in about 1.5-3 hours, when available. See time frame below.
Why does dog grooming take so long? Dog haircuts aren't like people haircuts. Depending on your dog's hair type or condition a typical groom for a SMALL goes like this...
Your dog is completely brushed and then combed. They are then given their initial haircut. This can take more than an hour on a well behaved, tangle free dog. Then they are bathed by the groomer to ensure an amazing experience. A thorough bath with a conditioning treatment should be at least a half an hour. Nails, ears and glands are also done at this time.
Your pet is then towel dried, and if they can tolerate it, fluff dried. At this point, they are still quite damp, so they will rest in their cage under a warm (never hot!) fan.
When they are completely dried, they're brushed and combed out again and they'll get a final haircut to trim any scraggly pieces (another hour). The other finishing touches such as nail grinding and bows are done now (another 10-30 minutes). Keep in mind that other pets will also be getting worked into the bath/haircut rotation, too.
Pets who are especially stressed, Express Grooms, older dogs, or puppies get to go first. Not all dogs are cooperative with grooming, and we work at their pace.
All of these factors affect grooming time. We're also using scissors on your pet's face, so it's not something we want to rush. We'd make more money if we did hurry the process along, but your pet appreciates our low stress atmosphere. Slowness equals safety.
I can't pick my dog up until after work, is that okay? Sure, we're here until 6pm. We have a lot of pets who spend the day with us. Just let us know what time(s) they need to have potty breaks. We'll also give them healthy treats and some opportunities to drink water. If they have dietary restrictions, you're welcome to bring their own snacks.
